Queen Elizabeth II was seen wearing invisible hearing aids in public for the first time at the age of 93. In the photo, taken as the Queen was on her way to a ceremony, you can clearly see she’s wearing a CIC-type invisible hearing aid — Completely In Canal — and part of it is likely visible in her ear because it isn’t fully inserted into the canal. Going by the visible part, we can deduce it’s a Signia hearing aid, specifically the Signia Silk model, an invisible hearing aid model we’ll look at in more detail in this article.

Signia Silk Hearing Aid, an Invisible Hearing Aid
Signia, formerly known as Siemens, has managed to combine the advantages of a CIC hearing aid with the simplicity of fitting a RIC, in a hearing aid that can be fitted without a custom-made mould. From the patient’s point of view, using it feels very similar to a discreet earpiece, running on a size 10 button-cell battery. The Signia Silk isn’t a powerful hearing aid, but it perfectly covers mild and moderate hearing loss, with its main selling point being how discreet it is once properly fitted inside the canal.
This invisible hearing aid sits completely inside the ear canal when properly fitted, and it would be hard to see the coloured part from the angle the photo of Queen Elizabeth II was taken from, so it seems likely the Queen didn’t insert the hearing aid all the way into the canal.

Signia keeps redefining what a hearing aid can be, launch after launch, placing more emphasis on design than other brands — as it already proved with the award-winning Signia Styletto, which we covered in a previous article.
What’s the Price of an Invisible Hearing Aid?
The Signia Silk runs on Nx technology, like the Signia Pure Nx — a technology that’s delivered very good results since it launched in 2018, although it would be great if Siemens updated these hearing aids to the recently launched Signia Xperience, which we cover in this article. This technology comes in 5 tiers, which determine the hearing aid’s price. Here’s a summary in this table:
| Hearing aid model | Hearing aid price |
|---|---|
| Signia Silk 7Nx | €3,484 |
| Signia Silk 5Nx | €2,750 |
| 3Nx | €2,016 |
| 2Nx | €1,650 |
| 1Nx | €1,284 |
Are Invisible Hearing Aids Suitable for Everyone With Hearing Problems?
The short answer is no. Because of their small size, invisible hearing aids usually offer fewer features than a standard hearing aid, so they’re generally only recommended for mild and moderate hearing loss. In any case, hearing aids are personalised medical devices, and it should be your audiologist who provides tailored advice after carrying out a full hearing test.
